No matter who it is — if someone slaughters an animal during a festival and you send them your best wishes, then you are most certainly complicit in that cruelty.

Blood is red — whether it comes from a cow, a goat, or a human being. If you watch just one video of an animal sacrifice where the creature is writhing in agony, soaked in blood, you will never send best wishes to that person again. Instead, you will pray that they quickly come out of their cruel mindset.

Stop Animal Sacrifice: Ban Bakrid

 

A holy bloodshed tradition in Islamic culture is known as Bakrid. Billions of cows/goats will be brutally beheaded and then chopped into tiny pieces, also this year on Thursday, 28 May 2026. 

In the name of Islam, the majority of ignorant, blind-faith-practicing Muslim people will teach their children how to kill innocent, defenseless creatures without any remorse in Bakrid—the festival of cruelty, slaughter, and mourning. What kind of Islam is this, which is forcing Muslims to do this barbaric act?

Animal Sacrifice in Orissa Festival

The Malkangiri Town wore a festive look since the four day long biennial festival "Badayatra" began   with much fanfare with the arrival of deities Balraj, Kanamraj, Potraj and goddess Mutyaluma at the Kanyamajhibandha here on Saturday,19 March early morning.

 

As per traditions, the Kondh, Paraja, Koya, Bonda, Bhumia and Gadava Adivasis in Malkangiri district bring out the principal deities Kanamraju (Krishna), Balaraju (Arjuna), Potaraju (Bhima) and Mutulaumma (Durga) in a colorful procession to appease the principal goddess, Mutulaumma from the remote Manyamkonda village, with much fanfare covering about 70 km distance to observe the Bada yatra festival once in every two years.

 

Earlier, a team of devotees from Malkangiri town reached Manyamkonda village to invite all the four deities. Accordingly, the deities were arrived in the temple town of Malkangiri in a grand procession while passing across Gubeluru, Kalimela, Potteru, Sikhpalli and Tamasa areas since the festival really started from it's original abode Manyamkonda a month back. All the four deities were taken out amid chanting of mantras and beating of drums by tribal heads from near by villages. As the deities passed the villages, the locals sacrificed animals in every step to get blessings of the deities as they believe that the gods require as many as sacrifices during the festival.

 

Animal Sacrifice:

 

Despite, all out efforts of the district administration to enforce a total ban on animal sacrifice before the deities during the festival in view of the High Court order, thousands of animals were seen sacrificed in Malkangiri town, some 50 meter away from the abode of the deities.

 

As the administration clamped prohibitory orders at the deities abode in Malkangiri town as a precautionary step, unlike the previous festivals, the animal sacrifice rate has come down this year. Though the district administration has become successful in bringing down the animal sacrifice rate this time, a total ban could not be enforced even if the administration and police had kept a tight vigil over the situation. This has sparked off resentment among the animal's right activists and intelligentsia.

🌸 Stop Animal Sacrifice in Durga Puja 🌸

 

The Goddess Durga is the eternal Mahishasuramardini. It means she destroys cruelty and darkness, not the seeker of innocent animal blood. True bhakti is never measured in violence, but in compassion and love.  

When we place a sword in one hand of Goddess Durga, we must also place a lotus in the other. The sword is for the protection of the weak and the destruction of Adharma—never for the slaughter of helpless animals.  

The ancient Vedas and Upanishads are crystal clear: Divine power is pleased not by killing, but by kindness. To kill in the name of the Goddess Durga is to go against Her very spirit. When we shed blood, we stain the festival of Shakti itself—a festival meant to awaken strength, purity, and protection for all.  

1. 📌 Rigveda (10.87.16) - “Let no one harm the innocent, neither the one who comes close nor the one passing by.”  

2. 📌 Yajurveda (36.18) -  “With the vision of divine friendship, I look upon all living beings.”  

3. 📌 Atharvaveda (19.48.5) - “Non-violence is the highest Dharma.”  

A sacrifice done in ahimsa is the highest offering—a kind heart, a pure prayer, a compassionate deed. That is the offering Mother Durga accepts with joy.  

Let us reclaim Durga Puja as a festival of compassion, not cruelty. Let us show the world that our culture celebrates life, not bloodshed. May this Durga Puja/Navratri awaken a new strength—the strength to protect, not to punish; the strength to love, not to destroy.

Sacrificing goats on Eid is a cruelty

 

Rahim was struggling with financial problems for the last few years. His small family consisted of a wife and four children. Every year, as soon as Eid al-Adha came, Rahim's friends and neighbors would start preparing for goat sacrifice. This year too, Rahim wanted to do the same, but due to poor business, he did not have money this time.

One day, Rahim's wife asked in the bedroom at night, “If we are not able to sacrifice goats this time, will people not say anything to us?” Rahim bowed his head, “People will say anything, but only Allah knows our situation.”

The next day Rahim met an Imam who was an animal lover and a kind person. Rahim told him about his concern. The Imam smiled and said, "Son, sacrificing goats is a cruelty and sacrificing animals is not necessary in Islam. If there is a shortage of money, then taking a loan and killing an animal is a double crime according to the law. It is clear in Islam—those who are in debt or poor, they have no burden of following the customs; rather, it is their duty to take care of their family.”

Rahim's eyes filled with tears, and he asked, “But what will people say?” The Imam said, "People will say anything, but Allah looks at your heart. It is said in Sura Al-Imran (3:29)—'Whether you hide or reveal what is in your heart, Allah knows everything.' It is your intention and struggle that really matter, not the sacrifice of goats.”

Rahim felt good after hearing this, and then he explained to his wife that the real Eid lies in purity of heart, kindness to animals and helping others.  He also explained to his friends and neighbours that sacrificing goats on Eid is a cruelty.

Ban the Gadhimai Animal Sacrifice Festival

The Gadhimai Festival is about to take place on 2nd December in 2024. We need to open the eyes of the Nepal Government to put a stop to the mass murder of animals!

The Global Campaign to Stop Animal Sacrifice needs your support to spread a message of kindness to ensure that the estimated 5 million devotees attending the festival will hear the message not to bring animals but to bring flowers and fruits to offer to the goddess Gadhimai instead of Sacrificing innocent animals.

The origins of the Gadhimai Animal Sacrifice Festival date back around 270 years, when the founder of the Gadhimai Temple, Bhagwan Chowdhary (A Local Goon), had a dream that the Goddess Gadhimai wanted blood in return for freeing him from prison, protecting him from evil and promising prosperity and power. The goddess asked for a human sacrifice, but he successfully offered an animal instead, and this has been repeated every five years since.

Every five years, the world’s largest animal sacrifice takes place at the Gadhimai Temple in the Bara District of Nepal, about 200 KM south of the capital city, Kathmandu. Following a big “Mela - A Grand Hindu Fest" the festival culminates in the ritual slaughter of more than tens of thousands of animals. It is the largest animal sacrifice event in the world and has previously involved the sacrifice of nearly half a million animals, of which more than 60-70% are illegally transported from India. 

In September 2019, the Supreme Court of Nepal ruled in favour of ending live animal sacrifice at the festival, directing the relevant agencies to create an action plan. But the idea of animal sacrifice is so ingrained in the minds of the millions of traditional devotees they have been ignoring the law of the land, turning Nepal into one of the most cruel countries for animals.

Allah doesn't ask for Animal Sacrifice 🕌

Allah doesn't ask for Animal Sacrifice, it was just human imagination in a contextual sense during the Islamic era.

No matter, how much decency a #Muslim* drips in any #Mosque after #slaughtering a #Cow or #Goat on #Bakrid, he is not innocent anymore. Being a #killer of animals, he cannot reach closer to #Allah, even after offering billions of #prayers.

Maa Kamakhya Temple, Assam

At Kamakhya (A Tantric Goddess that evolved in the Himalayan hills) Temple in Guwahati, Assam State of India, the large no. of goats and pigeons are sacrificed. 

If you wish to offer a creature, but not have it killed, then you pay for its upkeep. The result of that is the large numbers of goats wandering around, happily munching on leftover foods and wafer packets in nearby public places. There are also lots of pigeons with pink marks on them — offered but not sacrificed.

Ban Animal Sacrifice in Durga Puja

525 years old Durga Bari temple become the first example where animal sacrifice is fully banned now by Tripura High Court. I make an  appeal to all Hindu temple to stop this cruel practice by not giving an excuse to maintain the dignity of age old religious practices.  Animal sacrifice is not required to worship any deities. Please, take an action now to stop all kinds of sacrifice of birds and animals in premises built for auspicious activities.

भारत के मुस्लिम बहुल इलाकों में आज भी सड़कों‬ और ‪गलियों‬ में पशुओं के रक्त की धारायें हर साल बकरईद‬ के दिन बहती है। इसके साथ ही वहां मारे गए जानवरों के बचे हुए हिस्सों से उत्पन्न गंदगी सप्ताह तक दुर्गन्ध मचाते रहते हैं और उनकी ‪भटकती‬ आत्मा‬ महीनों तक ‪मनहूसियत‬ बयान करती है। यह सब करते हुए कैसे हमारे पढ़े-लिखे मुसलमान‬ ‪ईदमुबारक‬ कह कर एक दूसरे को ‎धार्मिक सद्भावना का पैगाम दे सकते हैं? चलो ये मान ले कि उन्होंने अपने पारम्परिक धर्म को अपने जानवर-खाने के आदत के अनुरूप कर लिया पर उनकी सारी ‪शिक्षा‬ का ‪‎देहांत‬ ‪‎बकरीद‬ के दिन ही क्यों हो जाता है? ईद अपना असली अर्थ तभी ला सकता हैं जब हमारे मुसलमान अपने ‪आदिम‬ ‪इस्लाम‬ के नाम पर ‪‎जानवरों‬ की हत्या बंद करें।

In Muslim dominant areas of India, the ‎animal ‪‎blood streams flows at streets and lanes in every year in ‪‎Bakrid‬. Also, the remaining parts of the killed animal generates stench for weeks and linger ‪‎soul speaks to ‪‎dystopian‬ for months. All this while, how come educated Muslims can share religious harmony with each other by saying Eid Mubarak? Let us assume, that people customized traditional religion along with their animal-eating habits but why they kill their conscience on Bakrid?  Eid can bring it’s real meaning only when Muslims stop sacrificing animals, which display the Islam in its primitiveness and also, encourage other people to have a peaceful and crueltyfree festival.

Moscow bans Islamic sacrifice ritual for Eid

Muslims in the Russian capital Moscow have been denied the right to celebrate the upcoming Eid al-Adhu (Feast of the Sacrifice) Islamic holiday after local authorities banned them from carrying out the traditional slaughter ritual.

The second of the two Eid holidays in the Islamic calender, Muslims typically celebrate the occassion by slaughtering a lamb, a cow or a camel and distributing its meat to relatives, neighbors and the poor.

However, a spokesman for the city's inter-regional cooperation, national policy and religious organizations department, told Interfax on Wednesday that the sale and slaughter of sacrificial animals will be banned in Moscow during the holiday.

Muslims will be allowed to fulfil the regilious rite in villages outside of the main city, he added.

A recent influx of migrant workers in Moscow from mainly Muslim parts of Russia, such as the northern Caucasus and central Asia, have brought to light new issues in the city, amid increasing tensions between migrants and the city's Slavic community.

Currently, there are only four official mosques in Moscow, which is insufficient to cope with the increase of Muslims arriving in the city.

Muslims in Moscow in recent years have had to resort to praying their Eid prayers in public squares with prior permission from the local authorities.

In total, around 23 million Muslims live in Russia, making it the country's second largest religion with 15% of the overall population of 145 million.

Camel Sacrifice is banned in India

COIMBATORE: TNN | Oct 4, 2014 - City Muslims are in for some disappointment as authorities may not permit the slaughter of camels on the holy occasion of Bakrid.

The Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) wrote to all state governments on Thursday, informing them that a recent notification issued by the food safety and standards authority does not allow slaughter of camels, for any purpose. They have asked the governments to ensure that camels are not slaughtered on the night before the holy day.

For the past seven to eight years at least seven to eight camels have been brought into the city from Rajasthan and slaughtered on the occasion of Bakrid. "They are usually brought in from Kankrauli, Udaipur or Raj Nagar districts in Rajasthan," said environmentalist N I Jalaluddin, who heads the nature conservation society. "Their kurbaan, or sacrifice, is done along with other cows at a wedding hall or ground specifically rented for this purpose. It happens in Kottaimedu, Karumbukadai and Podanur," he added. Sources say that since prayers have to be offered, animals are not taken to the slaughter houses on this day.

The letter states that "camels cannot be slaughtered 'for food based on the directions issued by Food Safety and Standards Authority of India under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare'. A notification issued by the FSSAI to all food safety commissioners states "under regulation 2.5 definitions of animals, carcass and meat are given. Under sub regulation 2.5 an animal means ovines (sheep), bovines (ox and cow), caprines (goats or goat-antelopes) and suillines besides poultry and fish".

AWBI has also asked the governments to ensure that animals are slaughtered only in slaughter houses and that the transport of animals act is not violated at any point of time. The Tamil Nadu DGP, K Ramanujam, said that he had not received the letter yet. "It might have gone to the commissioner instead, but we have not received any such communication from them so far," he added.


While authorities are expected to hesitate to follow the directive since it may hurt religious sentiments, a few religious heads in the city said there are simpler ways out. "Islam does not prescribe the slaughter of camels specifically. You can slaughter goats or cows instead," said the Imam of the Al Ameen Colony mosque, Abu Bakr.


"If they slaughter camels in Saudi Arabia it is because the animal is freely available there," he added.


"People here do it just to make a spectacle of the event and the festival," he said.

Ahmedabad (Gujarat): A day after police detained a truck carrying 167 cows near Shyamlaji, city cops detained a truck in Saraspur carrying cows.

 

Widespread trafficking of cows has raised concerns about disappearing of several important breeds of cows.

 

A Delhi-based trust has come up with a shocking claim.The illegal slaughter of cows has led to some 110 breeds of the animal going extinct in the country since Independence. According to figures provided by the Akhil Bharatiya Go-Sanvradhan, the country had some 118 breeds of cows till 1947. But now the trust says only 18 of them survive.

 

The trust has blamed the large scale slaughter of the animal for the drop in number of breeds. "Prior to 1947, India had over 48 crore of cows. But now it is just 6 crore," said national president of the trust Swami Swayamanad Giri. He was speaking at a press meet on Thursday.

 

These claims are supported by other organisations of the city working to prevent the illegal slaughter of cows in the city. Tejabhai Desai, a social worker said kidnap and slaughter of cows has seen a rise in and around the city.

He said that for the last one year butchers have been active in villages surrounding the city. "On Monday, 8 cows in Shertha village of Kalol had gone missing. Similarly, Maaldhari boys spotted butchers trying to escape with 4 cows in Santej village," said Desai.

 

He claimed that in the last few months more than 70 vehicles loaded with cows or beef have been detained in Dholka taluka alone. "This is the reason why cow population is going down. Government and police must do something to stop this illegal slaughter" said Desai.

 

The picture is even gloomier in Ahmedabad city, as illegal trafficking and slaughtering of cows has become a regular affair. According to Nagji Desai, president of Maaldhari Ekta Samiti, in the last one month eight vehicles loaded with beef have been seized by the police.

 

He claimed that cow stealing was particularly rampant in areas like Ramol, Isanpur, Bapunagar and Shahpur. In a meeting with state DGP, on Monday, Desai had accused gangs from Juhapura, Bapunagar and Dani Limda of targeting cows roaming on city roads. Desai said cow trafficking and slaughtering is a lucrative business as the meat from a single cow fetches about Rs6000.He also said that inter-state gangs were involved in this business.

 

Earlier on Wednesday, Shamlajee police had detained a truck carrying 167 cows and calves. The truck with a Madhya Pradesh registration number was trying to enter Gujarat during the night.According to Shamlajee police, the 10 wheeled truck was jam packed with cows. Due to congestion, 66 cows and calves died. Earlier, following a representation by the Maaldhari community, Chitranjan Singh, state Director General of Police (DGP) had asked the concerned heads of police stations to curb the menace.

 

"We are working towards curbing the menace. We will also ensure that the offenders do not get bail easily," said Singh. He also ordered that more vehicles be hired for patrolling in the night.

The political situation in the Netherlands is going to make a historical change. After, an announcement made lately to launch Animal Rights Police in the Netherlands. Now, a bill is moving through parliament to ban Halal and Kosher religious slaughter of animals on the grounds that it is a cruel and inhumane practice. The bill currently enjoys support from a majority of Members of Parliament and is expected to be put up for debate sometime this week.

 

The bills sponsor, the pro-animal party (PvdD: Party for the Animals) is being joined by the extreme right wing anti-Islam Party for Freedom (PVV) led by Geert Wilders. The Dutch right wing is said to support the bill out of its hostility toward the Dutch Muslim population.

 

Halal is Islamic; Kosher is Jewish. Both religions demand that animal slaughter is carried out with a single cut to the throat while the animal is conscious. When the animal is slaughtered under ancient Jewish and Muslim dietary laws, it is left to bleed out while conscious, afraid and in pain.

 

The issue is one of competing interests: freedom of religion versus animal rights. Animal rights activists claim the ritual slaughter is a cruel and barbaric practice that is both unnecessary and unwarranted. Though, the Muslim and Jewish fundamentalists say the ban would be a violation of their religious freedom.

 

After passing this bill the Netherlands will join New Zealand, Scandinavian countries and Switzerland which have had similar bans in place for decades.
